"WE LIVE WITH OPPORTUNITY - THE TRICK IS TO FIND IT!"

When we all go back to Zero!!

I wonder if you remember Joel Barker. He was a futurist who coined the use of that wonderful word Paradigm!!

And one of the most insightful comments I remember that Joel said was that when a paradigm changes we all go back to zero.

In the employment market today we are seeing exactly that. The paradigm has really changed. As result we are seeing a very different market for candidates where one where the old rules simply will not work like they used to.

And it is not the economic climate. Yes it has been the catalyst that has made the changes so apparent. However they have been there for a good while.

So what is this new paradigm?

Well from the work I have done in the States the one thing that is most apparent is the competitiveness of the employment market over there. Candidates know that there are a good number of other candidates that they need to compete with to either be selected for a role or to win promotion within an organisation.

And in New Zealand candidates have never really experienced the level of competitiveness for roles that we are now seeing. This competitiveness is both externally for roles that people apply for right through to being selected for internal roles within organisations.

So are people prepared and equipped to deal with this new paradigm? Some are but many are not.

Every day we see candidates going into interviews under prepared, without good interview techniques or training, with a poor quality CV and without the focus that they need if they want to win.

Winning is now an operative word in both the employment and promotion stakes. And for success the rewards are very high!!
So why do many people not approach finding a job or winning a promotion with the same focus and commitment they would put into a proposal to win a large piece of business?

Maybe people think that their record will speak for itself. Sometimes it does and sometimes it is so poorly presented that it simply does not do the person justice.

We have developed a series of Saturday Seminars that now address these issues and give both the tools and the insights by which candidates who want to succeed can have an advantage.
